With Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media platforms you may be asking yourself ‘Do I really need a website?’.
The answer is ‘not necessarily’, but there are some things to consider before deciding.
What is a website for?
In an increasingly online world, your website becomes your storefront. It is where potential customers will come to find out about your business.
It will also help potential clients trust your business over another that does not have a website.
Can I not just use Social Media?
Think about the way you look for a business.
You probably go to Google first and check their website; services they offer, previous work, prices etc.
You may then look at their social media channels to see how they operate and what other people are saying about them.
The important thing to remember is that first impressions count and your website is typically the first place people will go.
Can your customers find you online without a website?
If you consider that 90% of people search using Google and if people cannot find you on Google then it is going to raise some concerns.
That is why the initial search matters.
But what if you had an old website that you created when you first started your business, that should be OK shouldn’t it?
Most people will form an opinion about your website, therefore your business within the first 5 seconds of visiting your site.
Does your website continue to represent your business and what you do? Is your design professional and clean? Is your content up to date? Does your website work properly across all devices including mobiles and tablets?
Having a quality, well designed, well developed website can help you stand out from the crowd.
What else can a website do for your business?
Most businesses will usually start with a simple brochure style website. Information about the business, what it does, services it offers and contact details.
But as your business grows so can your website. You may want to include examples of previous projects, customer testimonials, downloadable content, online course, ecommerce etc.
The advantage of the internet is that it is 24/7, 365 days a year and turns the whole world into potential customers.
The answer the question ‘Do I need a website in 2020?’ is NO but choosing not to have a website could be losing you opportunities every day and will absolutely be decreasing your visibility to potential customers.
