Project Brief
Field Sports Channel TV wanted to incorporate an online Business Directory into their existing site.
This would allow visitors to search for business in 2 ways.
Firstly they could select up to 3 categories from the list and the map would be populated with markers of every business in the UK that was in that particular category, then the visitor could zoom and pan to a particular area.
Secondly they could enter their post code or town, up to 3 categories and also a maximum distance. They would then be presented with search results matching their choices with the businesses sorted by distance and the map would be populated with markers for the search results.
Our solution
We built this site in PHP with a MySQL database, using JavaScript to provide a link between the browser and PHP scripts. This is apparent when you select a category from the list and the map is then automatically populated with markers.
The search function used Google Maps geocoding and some clever algorithms to determine the distance between your entered postcode and each business.
The directory also features and admin area where categories or directory listings can be added,edited or deleted,
We also built in the functionality for visitors to create their own listing including uploading images and linking to video.
